TRUSSVILLE – The Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama will host a Founder’s Day Event October 30 from 2-4 p.m. at Camp Coleman.
The event will reconnect former Girl Scouts and friends at Camp Coleman, and will include walking tours of the camp, a traditional flag ceremony, a display of local Girl Scout memorabilia and refreshments.
“We encourage anyone who was involved in Girl Scouting as a girl or volunteer to reach out to past leaders, fellow Girl Scouts and camp friends to join you at any of GSNCA’s properties for a party.” Karen Peterlin, chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, said.
Celebrations will also be held at Kanawahala Program Center in Chelsea, Camp Trico in Guntersville, the Decatur Girl Scout Little House and Camp Cottaquilla in Anniston.
Founder’s Day is an opportunity to honor the Girl Scouts’ founder, Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low, who organized the first Girl Scout troop on March 12, 1912 in Savannah Georgia.
“We’ll share and capture stories to help keep our Girl Scout traditions alive,” Peterlin said.
There more than 13,000 girl scouts in 36 countries.
