From The Trussville Tribune Staff Reports
ARGO – Argo was ranked one of the safest cities in Alabama in a recent study.
Argo was listed third out of 100 Alabama cities. The most recent FBI crime report statistics were reviewed alongside population data to come up with the safest cities. Cities with fewer than 2,500 residents were eliminated, as well as any that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI.
From that point, the list was narrowed down based on the number of reported violent crimes, such as aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery, as well as property crimes like burglary, arson, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft. The likelihood of those crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city was also examined to “level out the playing field,” according to safewise.com.
Under the above constraints, Argo ranked .95 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 9.05 property crimes per 1,000 per year.
A number of other cities in St. Clair and Jefferson County were also ranked, including Odenville, Moody, Pell City, Springville, Leeds and Irondale.
