TRUSSVILLE – The Southeastern Rett Syndrome Alliance (SRSA) is partnering with Girl Power 2 Cure in the second annual Revlon LOVE IS ON Million Dollar Challenge.
The challenge is a six week fundraising contest open to U.S. and Canadian women’s health charities, and runs September 14-October 26. Prizes total $1.4 million, and challengers will be vying for the top spot, a $1 million grant from Revlon.
The SRSA is celebrating its 10th year of work for the Rett Syndrome community, raising awareness, educating, supporting families and funding research for the severe neurological disorder, which almost exclusively affects females.
Born normal, girls are robbed of their ability to speak, walk and use their hands by the age of two or three. There currently are not treatments or cure, but advances in education and research are showing a promising future for proper funding.
“The timing of this challenge is perfect. It falls in our 10-year anniversary and takes place during October, which is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month,” Rene Davis, one of SRSA’s founders, said. Davis’s daughter Kimberly, 31, suffers from Rett Syndrome.
The campaign, dubbed “Dream Big,” is reaching across the globe to connect with supporters and audiences passionate about finding a cure for the disease.
“We always dream big for our girls, but resources don’t always match what we ant to be able to achieve,” Davis said. “Now we have an opportunity to really dream big. We’ll be ready to fight for first place for all of our girls. We’re committed more than ever to do more for everyone impacted by Rett Syndrome.”

First place for the challenge is $1 million, second place is $100,000, third place is $75,000, fourth place is $50,000 and fifth place is $25,000.
