WALKER COUNTY –According to the Alabama State Troopers office, a two-vehicle crash at 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday claimed two lives and injured a child.
A 17-year-old from Jasper was killed when the 2003 Ford Focus she was driving was struck by a 2001 Peterbilt dump truck driven by Chris Allen Leberte, 56, of Pell City. The teenager, who was not using a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dump truck caught fire, causing fatal injuries to Leberte. The Ford’s passenger, a 12-year-old, was transported to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. The crash occurred on U.S. 78 near the 163 mile marker, six miles east of Jasper.
Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
