BIRMINGHAM – An armed domestic violence suspect committed suicide Friday in front of a Birmingham Police officer.
Birmingham Police officers responded to an apartment in the Southtown public housing community just before 3 p.m. Friday. Authorities told al.com that the man was at the rear of his girlfriend’s apartment, beating on the door trying to get inside. She locked herself inside and called the police.
The suspect pulled a gun and shot himself in the head as officers went around to the rear of the apartment.
The man was believed to have been in his 20s, but he has not been identified yet.

Glad the woman inside the apartment and the BPD officers were not harmed physically during this incident.
