JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has opened an animal cruelty investigation after an alpaca was shot.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, deputies were called to a home in the 4100 block of Warrior-Jasper Road to investigate the report of an animal being shot. The owner reported he usually feeds his alpacas around 4 p.m. every day, but noticed one did not come to eat. Upon searching for the animal, he found it had been shot twice and killed.
The shooting likely happened sometime during the night on August 7, according to investigators.

That ranks up there when the rodeo was in town one yr, and one of the horses was shot in a drive-by down at the BJCC.

I hope they find the person who did it and they are prosecuted to the fullest extent. We had a horse many years ago that someone shot and only injured him but the vet told us that even if he operated more likely than not the horse would die so we had him put to sleep. As the vet drove away with the horse on the back of his truck I was crying like a baby.
