HOMEWOOD – After battling cancer for nearly four years, Connor Wilson died on Friday.
Wilson had been battling anaplastic ependymoma since he was 18-months-old, and doctors told the family when he went in for his last scan that the cancer was back, but was this time inoperable.
When the family heard the news that Wilson had two weeks to two months to live, they knew they needed to do everything in their power to make that time special.
Wilson had met the firefighters at the Center Point Fire Department about six months ago, and when they heard of his diagnosis, he was invited back.
Wilson showed up, family in tow, to spray the fire hose, extend the ladder on the fire truck, and be inducted as honorary firefighter of the year. There was a reception that followed his induction, where Wilson was showered with gifts.
Wilson was a member of Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church and attended Shades Cahaba Elementary School, according to his obituary in The Birmingham News. Services will be held at the Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church, 8090 Gadsden Highway in Trussville, AL 35173 (Hwy 11) on Monday, August 1, at 2 p.m., with viewing before his service at 1 p.m. at the Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oneonta.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Magic Moments; 1600 7th Ave. S.; Birmingham, AL 35233; (205)-638-9372; www.magicmoments.org.
