PELL CITY – Dive rescue team members were called to the Coosa River at 10:30 p.m. Saturday to search for a vehicle that drove into the river.
The crash occurred at 9:57 p.m. on Woods Bend Road when the 1998 Toyota Camry that Tara Beth Ray was driving left the roadway and was submerged in the river. Ray and another adult passenger were able to escape the vehicle, according to Trooper Chuck Daniel.
The team searched for five hours to locate the vehicle, and recovered a small child that did not survive the accident, according to the Pell City PD Facebook page.
Pell City Police, Pell City Fire, Leeds Fire and the City of Talladega all assisted in the search.
