SHELBY COUNTY – Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies located a stolen vehicle and a suspect for a burglary that occurred last month in Shelby County on Tuesday.
On June 30 at 4:40 a.m., Shelby County Deputies responded to a home invasion-style burglary in the 1000 block of Emerald Circle. The homeowners awoke to find an unknown man, wearing a mask and possibly armed with a gun, inside their home.
The suspect fled the area in the homeowner’s white 2012 Ford F150 king cab pickup truck, and the victims called 911. Neither of the homeowners was injured.
The victim’s truck was located empty in Birmingham by Birmingham Police Officers, and BPD and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect in the area the truck was found, and detained him.
Keon Nevan Hardy, 29 of Birmingham, had a key to the stolen truck in his pocket, and he was charged with burglary in the second degree, theft of property in the first degree and fraudulent use of a credit card. His bond totals $50,000 and he is currently in the Birmingham City Jail, awaiting extradition to the Shelby County Jail.
“I take all crimes very seriously but none more so than the forced entry into a person’s home,” Shelby County Sheriff Samaniego of said. “Our job now is to continue to work to catch others who commit this type of crime and to prevent them from doing it again.”
