BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after an incident on Rugby Avenue.
The incident occurred in the 8100 block of Rugby Avenue around 5:45 a.m. Friday. Officers responded to a person stabbed, and found the victim lying on the
ground suffering from a stab wound to the upper torso. Tyrone Taylor, 49 of Birmingham, was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
A witness and possible suspect said that when he returned home Friday morning, he found the victim fighting two male suspects. The witness said the suspects must have stabbed the victim, who was their stepfather, during a robbery before fleeing the scene in an unknown vehicle.
Further investigations indicated that a struggle took place between the victim and the witness, and the story told by the witness was fabricated, according to Lt. Sean Edwards.
“It is a sad day when a father and son have to result to this level of violence,” Edwards said.
The investigation is ongoing.
