CENTER POINT – A 65-year-old Birmingham man has been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide after the van he was driving collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 1400 block of 4th Place NW in Center Point around 7:20 p.m. on the call of a traffic accident. Deputies arrived to find a motorcycle and a van had collided, resulting in the death of the male driver of the motorcycle. The driver of the van has been identified as Richard Sanders.
Detectives have learned that the motorcycle had been traveling in front of the van driven by Sanders, when the motorcycle slowed to make a turn and the van collided with him. Deputies determined that Sanders was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, and he remains in the Jefferson County Jail pending a $15,000 bond.
