JEFFERSON COUNTY –Just after 4:30 a.m. on Monday, deputies were called to the 2800 block of Alabama Highway 79 north of Tarrant to investigate a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. They arrived to find an adult female victim. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Sergeant Jack Self said information on the scene is that the woman and a man were walking in the median of Alabama Highway 79 near the northbound lanes. The woman was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north. The driver of the truck was not injured and pulled into a nearby convenience store.
The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is on scene. The northbound lanes of Alabama Highway 79 are currently closed in the area of the accident. The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of family. The investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided as they become available.
