BIRMINGHAM – Police detectives with the Birmingham Police Department are conducting a homicide investigation following a Tuesday night shooting.
Officers responded to the 200 block of Memphis Street Wylam on Tuesday night around 7 on a person shot. Upon arrival, police found Forrest Jackson, 39, lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds to the body. The Birmingham native passed away at UAB Hospital on Thursday.
Before being transported to the hospital, Jackson told authorities that he was shot by an unknown black male as he was exiting his vehicle.
According to a witness, Jackson’s story is untrue. The preliminary investigation reveals that a witness saw Jackson arguing with the shooter leading up to the crime.
Police believe the two men knew one another before the argument took place. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
