JEFFERSON COUNTY –Two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a single car accident in the 6200 block of New Castle Road near Morris on Thursday evening.
Jefferson County chief deputy coroner Bill Yates identified the fatalities as Carson Nolan Thomas, 16, of Gardendal and Ryan Christopher Washburn, 18, of Morris
Carol Robinson of The Birmingham News reported that Thomas would have been a junior next year at Mortimer Jordan High School and Washburn had just graduated from the school.
“Just after 6:30 p.m. this evening deputies responded to a report of a single car accident in the 6200 block of New Castle Road,” Randy Christian of the Jefferson County sheriff’s office said. “It was reported that a white Lexus had left the road and overturned. Two people were reportedly trapped inside the car.”
Christian said a third person was found outside the car.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, when paramedics arrived, two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene and a third victim was found to be suffering from minor injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver over-corrected after leaving the road, causing the vehicle to overturn, according to the statement.
The investigation into the crash continues.
