PINSON — Pinson Valley senior running back Nick Gibson electrified his team when he took the opening kickoff 80 yards.

The Indians never looked back, scoring all 48 of their points in the first half against Class 6A, Region 6 foe Woodlawn on Friday at Willie Adams Stadium.

Gibson scored four touchdowns on the ground. He ran for more than 150 yards before he came out of the game. His touchdowns came on runs of 65, 2, 6 and 3 yards out.
Gibson gave his offensive line all the credit. The Pinson Valley offense only punted once and turned the ball over twice.
Defensively, Pinson Valley (2-1) shut down Woodlawn the entire game. Woodlawn quarterback Maurice Pouncey couldn’t get anything going. Woodlawn also struggled running the ball with only two runs for more than 10 yards.
“They are having fun out there and we’re getting to the football,” Pinson Valley head coach Matt Glover said of his defense. “The name of the game on defense is all 11 (players) to the football. We are doing a good job of that.”
Special teams was also key in the game. After Gibson’s kickoff return, senior Nathan Cunningham blocked a Woodlawn punt then picked it up, gaining a few yards before lateraling the ball to Dandre Hart, who scored the touchdown.
Junior quarterback Errius Collins threw a touchdown pass to Trey Underwood and also ran for a three-yard score.
This was Pinson Valley’s second straight shutout after losing the season opener at Hartselle.
The Indians head to Gardendale next Friday.
