TRUSSVILLE — The ACT average for Hewitt-Trussville High School students this year was its highest in five years, according to a recently released ACT score report.
In 2010, 2011, and 2012, Trussville City Schools had a composite ACT score of 22.2. In 2013, that number was 22.3. For this year, the average increased to 22.7. The state’s composite score for 2014 is 20.6.
This year, the number of students taking the ACT was 310. Since 2010, the closest number of participants in Trussville City Schools was 263, which occurred in 2013.
According to the report, Hewitt-Trussville students’ best subject was English, earning a 23.6 average. The worst subject was math, with students earning a 20.9 average.
According to the report, 87 percent of Hewitt-Trussville students who took the ACT this year are ready for college English composition, while 61 percent are ready for college social science. Forty-eight percent are ready for college biology and 44 percent are ready for college algebra, according to the report.
Hewitt-Trussville High School Principal Tim Salem and Secondary Curriculum Coordinator Jennifer Cardwell will speak more about the report at the Sept. 15 Trussville City Board of Education work session.
