TRUSSVILLE — The new traffic light at the intersection of Trussville-Clay Road and Husky Parkway is now operational.
The traffic light began working earlier this week. It had been flashing for a period of time as required, Trussville Mayor Gene Melton said. Melton said the traffic light will remain on until the Alabama Department of Transportation begins construction for the intersection, which he hopes will begin in the spring of 2015.
The Husky Parkway extension is set to open Sept. 15.

“The only time that this light will change is due to a power failure or repair, which will require it to go back to flashing,” Melton said.
The installation of the traffic light began in July.
The Husky Parkway bridge and extension to Trussville-Clay Road is expected to open Sept. 15, barring any weather delays.
According to Trussville City Schools, the opening of Husky Parkway will create several traffic pattern changes that involve Hewitt-Trussville High School and the Deerfoot Parkway intersection.
The speed limits, signage, flow patterns and striping plans are being completed and submitted for approval. Once final, the city and school system will begin publicizing the new traffic patterns to ensure the safety of all drivers, especially the student drivers on Husky Parkway.
Administrators from Hewitt-Trussville High School will meet with student drivers to explain the changes and how the changes to school entrances and exits will apply to them. Parents will also receive the new information so they will have time to study the plan in order to be ready for the opening of the Husky Parkway extension.
