HOOVER — The Hoover Police Department has charged a former caregiver at South Haven Health and Rehab with physically abusing an 80-year-old patient.
This case was brought to the attention of South Haven administrators and police after a family member suspected their relative was being abused. Evidence gathered led to a warrant being issued for the arrest of Taneka Kiera Hopkins, of Pinson.
This crime allegedly occurred on Aug. 13 while Hopkins was working as a certified nursing assistant at the South Haven facility on Old Columbiana Road.
Hopkins was charged Thursday with second-degree elder abuse. She’s in Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $15,000.
