CLAY — Clay-Chalkville remains No. 2 in Class 6A, according to this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.
The Cougars sit behind just Spanish Fort in Class 6A. Spanish Fort earned 29 of the 32 first-place votes, while the Cougars picked up two. Shades Valley, ranked No. 3, had the other first-place vote.
The rest of the Class 6A top 10, in order, are Carver-Montgomery, Opelika, Daphne, Blount, Florence, Muscle Shoals and Decatur. Hartselle, which beat Pinson Valley 27-21 in the first game of the season, earned 11 votes for top 10 consideration.
In Class 7A, Hoover remained on top, despite its 24-21 loss to Miami (Fla.) Central over the weekend. The rest of the top 10, in order, are Bob Jones, McGill-Toolen, Spain Park, Central-Phenix City, Foley, Vestavia Hills, Fairhope, Gadsden City and Auburn.
Neither Pinson Valley nor Hewitt-Trussville garnered votes for top 10 consideration in Class 6A and Class 7A, respectively.
