JEFFERSON COUNTY — How many students go to area schools?
Look no further than here.
Trussville City Schools and Jefferson County Schools this week released their most up-to-date enrollment numbers for the 2014-2015 school year. Those numbers compared to the average daily membership numbers from the 2013-2014 school year show not a lot of change.
“These Paws Need Solid Walls” became a slogan for Trussville City Schools during the campaigning process for two new elementary schools. On Feb. 25, the “need” in the slogan became “will get.”

Trussville City Schools as a system in 2013-2014 had an average daily enrollment of 4,259.35. As of Aug. 15, this year’s enrollment is 4,312 students. Here’s the breakdown by school:
- Paine Primary School: 926 students as of Aug. 15, compared to 896.55 last year
- Paine Intermediate School: 967 students as of Aug. 15, compared to 971.95 last year
- Hewitt-Trussville Middle School: 1,045 students as of Aug. 15, compared to 999.15 last year
- Hewitt-Trussville High School: 1,374 students as of Aug. 15, compared to 1,391.70 last year
Jefferson County Schools as a system in 2013-2014 had an average daily enrollment of 36,203 students. As of Aug. 18, this year’s enrollment is 35,778 students. Here’s the breakdown by area schools:

- Chalkville Elementary School: 1,206 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 1,126 last year
- Clay Elementary School: 612 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 627 last year
- Clay-Chalkville Middle School: 976 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 1,016 last year
- Clay-Chalkville High School: 1,348 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 1,333 last year
- Pinson Elementary School: 831 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 838 last year
- Kermit Johnson Elementary School: 768 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 786 last year
- Rudd Middle School: 748 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 827 last year
- Pinson Valley High School: 1,078 students as of Aug. 18, compared to 1,028 last year
Official enrollment figures submitted to the Alabama State Department of Education 20 days after Labor Day determine state funding for schools.
