JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two people died in a crash on Highway 79 north of Pinson on Wednesday night.
Just before 11 p.m., deputies responded to a traffic accident in the 9700 block of Highway 79.
The accident involved a head-on collision between a 1996 Dodge pickup truck and a 2006 Dodge pickup truck. The 2006 Dodge that was driven by a 23-year-old Blount County man was traveling northbound on Highway 79 and appeared to have crossed the center line and collided with the other truck driven by a 17-year-old male from Center Point traveling south on Highway 79.
Both drivers were dead on the scene, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. A passenger in the southbound truck told deputies that he and his friend had been traveling south and the other truck hit them head on.
He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
