GARDENDALE — Clay-Chalkville will have experience on its offensive line this season.
Head coach Jerry Hood said Monday at Jefferson and Shelby County High School Football Media Day that four seniors and one junior will line up as starters this season.
Senior Johnathan Butterworth will start at right tackle, and senior Justin Daniel is the returning starter at right guard. Senior Tyon Hardy will start at left tackle, and senior Aaron Jackson — a former defensive lineman — will play left guard. The team’s new center is junior Greg Fecanin, a player Hood called a “humongous child.”
“I expect them to be tough,” Hood said.
Hood said he expects six to seven linemen to see action in games this season. He tries to get them “valuable reps” in the fourth quarters and in practice to prepare for their next seasons.
Hood said Obed Ellis is the new offensive line coach. Ellis comes to Clay-Chalkville from Prattville. Hood said it’s the “best year we’ve had” in terms of a coaching staff. The same coaches from last season are back.
Hood was joined Monday by Butterworth and senior linebacker Jarrod Reedus.
“These two guys are what high school football is about,” Hood said.
