PINSON — Pinson Valley has its newest offensive coordinator.
The Jefferson County Board of Education last week approved Jon Clements as a physical education teacher at Pinson Valley High School. He will also serve as the varsity football team’s offensive coordinator.
Clements becomes the fourth offensive coordinator at Pinson Valley since Matt Glover became the head coach in 2009. Glover served in the role in 2009, Logan Colafrancesco in 2010, Chris Mills in 2011 and 2012, and Colafrancesco again last season.
Clements comes to Pinson Valley after being at Charles Henderson High School in Troy, where he coached quarterbacks and helped lead the team to the Class 4A state championship. Clements was also a baseball assistant coach, helping Charles Henderson win the Class 4A state championship.
Clements has been the offensive coordinator at Jemison High School and quarterbacks coach at Chilton County High School.
Glover said the plays Clements runs are similar to plays from last season, but the terminology is different.
“I really like what they’re doing on the offensive side of the ball,” Glover said.
Senior running back Nick Gibson said this year’s offense will be 10 times better than last season’s, and he credits Clements. He called him a “brilliant guy,” the smartest offensive coordinator he’s worked with.
“I think he could be an offensive coordinator with an NFL team,” Gibson said.
