TRUSSVILLE — Shay Shelnutt, of Trussville, has claimed victory over Locust Fork’s Brett King in the race for the Alabama State Senate District 17 seat, he said on his campaign Facebook page.
The post on the page congratulated King on a great race.
“His kids should be proud of their daddy,” the post states. “He is a smart young man who has lots to offer. I am certain we will see him again on the ballot.”
With all precincts reporting Tuesday night, Shelnutt had totaled 8,591 votes, or 52 percent. King had 8,051 votes, or 48 percent.
When all 51 precincts were reported in the June 3 primary election, Shelnutt totaled 7,475 votes and King had accumulated 6,566. District 17 includes parts of Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair and Talladega counties.
