PINSON — The city of Pinson received an AA- credit rating on its $2.11 million warrant for the planned park project.
The Pinson City Council voted unanimously Thursday to retire the 2007 warrant for Pinson City Hall, and enter into an agreement for the park funds. An AA- credit rating is “outstanding” for a municipality the size and age of Pinson, Mayor Hoyt Sanders said.
These funds will show up in the new budget as a warrant account.

The park will be located near Center Point Parkway between Sweeney Hollow Road and Glen Brook Road in Pinson. The city council hopes the park will be able to be opened in conjunction with Pinson’s 200th anniversary as a community in 2015. Councilman John Churchwell made a motion at the council’s first March meeting to have the Enhancement Committee begin planning the event. The motion was accepted unanimously.
The city council also approved a change to the sign at the Old Rock School property. The council decided to replace the current sign, which reads, “Solid Rock Church,” with one that features the city seal. The sign will also state “Rock School Center,” as well as having the date in which the school was originally established. The change to the sign will cost between $2,500 and $3,000, Sanders said.
The council also voted to renew its block grant agreement with Jefferson County. The agreement allows the county to use the city’s population to apply for grants. It also allows the city to have access to county resources for community development.
The Thursday, July 17 Pinson City Council meeting will take place at 10 a.m. at Palmerdale Homesteads Community Center rather than in the evening at Pinson City Hall.
