CLAY — Clay-Chalkville head softball coach Kari Pate has been released from the position after just one season, according to Clay-Chalkville High School Principal Michael Lee.
“We appreciate everything that Coach Pate did in her time at Clay-Chalkville High School,” Lee said. “She worked hard to help our ladies softball team be successful both on and off of the field. We did feel that a change was necessary in order to give our student-athletes the best opportunity to compete at the highest level. We wish Coach Pate and her family nothing but the best of luck in her future teaching and coaching jobs.”
Clay-Chalkville won just six games during the 2014 season.
Pate was approved as the softball coach by the Jefferson County Board of Education in August 2013. Pate was a pitcher at Oak Mountain High School from 1999-2003. Pate played for the 2001 Oak Mountain High School softball team that won the Class 5A state championship. During the 2001 season, Pate pitched 12 shutouts. Pate then played at Wallace State Community College for two years, and in 2005 her team won a state championship.
Paige Jones resigned from the Clay-Chalkville head softball coaching position in June 2013 after one season, leaving to take the same position at Hueytown. Clay-Chalkville in 2013 compiled an 11-32 record.
Scott Robertson, who has been at Clay-Chalkville High School since 1996 and coaches freshman football and varsity wrestling, will take over as the new softball coach.
“We are blessed at Clay-Chalkville to have a coach with the experience that Scott Robertson brings,” Lee said. “Coach Robertson will bring this program the stability, discipline and excitement it needs to begin the process of helping our ladies compete at the highest level.”
