BIRMINGHAM — Center Point Fire Chief Donnie West has been awarded the Alabama Fire Chief of the Year for Combination Fire Departments in the state of Alabama, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
West has been employed with Center Point Fire District for more than 38 years, where he’s ascended the ranks to his current position. While serving as fire chief, he’s been “instrumental in keeping Center Point Fire District on the forefront of Fire Departments throughout the State,” the post states.
Center Point Fire District is the largest and busiest fire district in the state, responding to more than 7,200 calls per year. The district covers the cities of Clay and Pinson.
“Chief West works diligently to ensure that the firefighters of CPFD have the best equipment and training to do their job,” the Facebook post states. “He places a lot of emphasis on professional development, firefighter Health and Wellness, and above all top notch customer service to the citizens of the Center Point Fire District.”
West is active throughout the state, serving as the operations chief on the Alabama Incident Management Team, full-time faculty at Columbia Southern University and adjunct faculty at Waldorf College. He’s also a certified peace officer for the state of Alabama and is an instructor for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
