HOMEWOOD — The Jefferson County Board of Education on Tuesday approved Jeremy Monceaux as the Clay-Chalkville varsity boys basketball coach.
Monceaux, who will also be a physical education teacher, has been an assistant basketball coach at Faulkner University in Montgomery for the last three seasons. Prior to that, he spent two seasons at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. In one of those two seasons, his team finished with a top 10 ranking in the NAIA.

At Faulkner, Monceaux’s primary responsibilities involved recruiting, the scouting of opponents and on-court coaching, specifically working with the Eagles’ backcourt. Prior to moving to Kentucky, Monceaux served the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, a season in which the Bucs posted a 32-4 record.
Monceaux, a Birmingham native, graduated from Parkway Christian Academy in 2002. While at Parkway Christian, Monceaux set, and still holds, many records for boys’ basketball in the Alabama High School Athletic Association, including single-season points (1,333), career points (4,555), single-season field goals made (458) and single-season free throws made (427). During his career, he became only the third Alabama high school player to ever collect 1,000-plus assists with 1,035. He also holds the record for the most 50-point games (20) and is the only player in AHSAA history to average 36-plus points per game in three straight years, doing so from 1998-2001 (40.4, 40.4 and 36.8).
Monceaux played collegiately at Liberty University in Virginia. He was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team in 2002-03 and was part of the 2003-04 Big South championship team that received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. His career was cut short due to injury. He returned to his home state and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Alabama in 2008.
Monceaux replaces Daniel Foy, who resigned earlier this year after totaling a 66-27 record in three seasons as the Clay-Chalkville head coach.
