TRUSSVILLE — Former Hewitt-Trussville and UAB golfer Same Love will play in the 2014 U.S. Open, according to Golf Week.
Love replaces Jason Millard of Murfreesboro, Tenn., after Millard self-reported that he grounded his club on the 18th hole at Colonial Country Club’s North Course while playing in a qualifier for the Open, the website reports. Millard reported the infraction five days after the match.
Love was the second alternate from the qualifier in Memphis, Tenn.
“I didn’t see anything for sure but I felt something and I saw a small indentation,” said Millard, a two-time All-American at Middle Tennessee State told Brentley Romine of Golf Week. “It happened so fast, I really don’t know 100 percent but deep down, I believe I did. I couldn’t find peace about it. For five days, I practiced and I couldn’t get it off my mind.
