TRUSSVILLE — Four Hewitt-Trussville football players and one cross country runner signed scholarships Friday.
Senior linebacker Hunter Reid signed with Faulkner University in Montgomery.
As a senior last season, Reid notched 101 tackles, good for third on the Hewitt-Trussville defense. He totaled a second-best 14 tackles for loss. He had one sack, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and a blocked kick.
Offensive guard Adam Swindal and wide receiver Logan McAlpin signed with Huntingdon College in Montgomery. As a senior last season, McAlpin caught 21 passes for 271 yards and one touchdown.
Defensive back Caleb Rigg signed with Birmingham-Southern College. As a senior last season, Rigg totaled 38 tackles and five tackles for loss. He tied for the team lead with two interceptions and led the Hewitt-Trussville defense with seven pass breakups.
Josh Dowds signed with Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C., for cross country and track. In October, Dowds finished 12th individually in the Class 6A, Section 3 run, in which Hewitt-Trussville as a team placed second.
