PINSON — Pinson Valley beat Moody 17-7 and 6-0 in Class 5A, Area 11 play to clinch the final playoff spot on Thursday.
The Indians (20-14) will begin the Class 5A playoffs at Mortimer Jordan next Friday.
Pinson Valley eliminated Mortimer Jordan in the second roundof the playoffs last season.
In the first game against Moody on Thursday, junior Baker Hodge was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Junior Destin Davidson had two hits and three RBIs. Hunter Davidson added two RBIs. Senior Levi Miller (6-0) got the win.
In the second game, Hunter Davidson threw a complete game three-hitter. He struck out nine batters. Pinson Valley took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Hunter Davidson’s double scored Hodge. Blake Sisson scored on a passed ball in the second and Jordan Bryant scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Gage Farley doubled in Brett Jordan and Hodge singled in Brent Stephens to put the Indians up 5-0 in the fourth. The Indians’ final run came on a Zac Ray single that plated Jacob Brown in the fourth inning.
