CLAY — With its 1-0 loss at Gadsden City on Tuesday night, the Clay-Chalkville baseball team will miss the Class 6A playoffs this season.
According to state records, this is the first time Clay-Chalkville has missed the playoffs since the 1999 season. It’s only the second time in school history that the school’s varsity baseball team will not compete in postseason play.
Clay-Chalkville is currently 19-12 overall and 2-5 in a tough Class 6A, Area 13. Oxford leads the area with a 6-1 record and Gadsden City is 4-3 in area play. Pell City is also 2-5 in area play.
Clay-Chalkville finishes up area play Thursday with a doubleheader at home against Gadsden City. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
