BIRMINGHAM —The Birmingham Police Department has arrested a person of interest involving Pinson’s Chaya Anders, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest Friday night in North Birmingham.
The authorities have not released the identity of the suspect who has been questioned by police about the 63-year-old’s slaying. No official charges have been filed.
Anders was found dead inside the business—Ebony Beauty Supply–she had operated for “many years” in the 2900 block of 27th Street North. The crime is believed to be a robbery, homicide that took place at some point Friday night.
Officers found the Pinson native dead Saturday morning around 10:40. Customers notified the police after arriving for their scheduled appointment only to find the doors locked and Anders’ vehicle parked out front. The vehicle appeared to have stayed the night in the same spot.
After forced entry, the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Anders dead on the scene.
Anders is the ninth homicide victim in Birmingham thus far in 2014.
