TRUSSVILLE — Trussville Fire and Rescue’s medical control physician is now board-certified in emergency medical services, a sub-specialty of emergency medicine available to diplomates of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
UAB Associate Professor Sarah Nafziger, M.D., is among the nation’s first physicians to earn the certification.
Nafziger has been Trussville Fire and Rescue’s medical control physician for about nine years and also serves on Trussville’s Public Safety Committee.
The purpose of the certification to improve patient safety, enhance the quality of emergency medical care provided in the pre-hospital environment and further integrate it into the continuum of patient care.
Nafziger is the assistant state EMS medical director for the Alabama Department of Public Health and the director of the UAB Office of EMS.
