TRUSSVILLE — Let’s be honest. When it comes to judging great barbecue, it’s a subjective exercise, at best.
But TheDailyMeal.com set out to do just that by listing the top 10 national barbecue chains in America and a couple local joints made the list. For area barbecue aficionados, that can’t be a bad thing.
It’s also important to remember that the website only considered national chains.
Jim N’ Nick’s BBQ took top honors, being named the No. 1 chain in America. The Birmingham-based restaurant has drawn rave reviews for quite a while.
“A visit to Jim N’ Nick’s, which was founded in 1985 by a father-son duo in Birmingham, Alabama and now has 30 locations, will show you that this is the real deal,” TheDailyMeal.com said.
Coming in at No. 9 in America was Moe’s Original BBQ.
Managed locally by Clayton Adams, Moe’s was founded in Colorado by three University of Alabama graduates. Mike Fernandez, Ben Gilbert and Jeff Kennedy teamed up to start the chain of restaurants that is celebrated today. But the true original Original Moe’s BBQ actually began in a former Dairy Queen building on Lurleen Wallace Boulevard in Northport.
The late Dr. Gabe Fernandez put Moses Day in business with his sons, Gabo, Mike and David Fernandez to keep them occupied and off the streets. The venture impacted Mike, who later reincarnated the restaurant with his current partners. Moe’s has become one of the country’s most popular and fastest growing barbecue chains.
“Pork and chicken are their showcased items, topped with the signature Alabama white barbecue sauce, but the Angus beef brisket, hot links, St. Louis spare ribs, and fried catfish are also worth saving room for,” TheDailyMeal.com said.
Jim N’ Nicks and Moe’s Original BBQ both have locations on U.S. Highway 11 in Trussville.
