CLAY — The Clay-Chalkville High School competition cheer squad recently won the Cheersport National Championship for its division at the World Congress Center in Atlanta.
In Recreation 3, Clay-Chalkville was up against 13 other squads from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee and Texas.
Toree Billingsley is the squad’s lone senior. Juniors include Kreia Bonner, Briana Hatten, Emily Hodge, Breanna Mahaffey and Samantha Pruett. The squad’s sophomores include Natalie Ayers, Kelcie Chesnutt, Mercedes Clay, Jeralyn Langford, Zaria Robertson, Alyson Smith, Rebekah Sewell and Mya Webster. Freshmen include Ameree Carter, Olivia Carty, Kamryn Clark and Hannah Roseman.
The squad is coached by Amanda Pittman, Brooke Sharkey, Todd Bragen and Amy Bragen.
Cheersport Nationals is one of the largest cheer competitions in the country with more than 1,200 cheer and dance squads and more than 25,000 cheerleaders and dancers. After the first day of the two-day competition, Clay-Chalkville was in second place behind a squad from Miami before pulling out the win with a second straight performance with only slight bobbles and only one deduction.
