LEEDS — The Hewitt-Trussville softball team rode a wave of solid offense and strong pitching to win the Green Wave Classic at Leeds last week.
Hewitt-Trussville beat Spain Park 3-0 to win the championship game. Freshman Camryn Thrasher’s pinch-hit, two-run single was the deciding hit in the game.
Hewitt-Trussville (7-0) got a complete-game shutout from sophomore Callie Shields. Junior catcher Taylor Beshears was 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Senior Leigh McAnally was also 2-for-3. Senior Kristen Bittle had nine putouts defensively.
For the six-game tournament, Hewitt-Trussville allowed just six runs.
For the tournament, McAnally had nine hits and six RBIs. Bittle had four doubles and six RBIs. Beshears, the tournament’s most valuable player, had three triples, two doubles and seven RBIs in the tournament.
