CLAY — Area high school football schedules for the 2014 season have been finalized, and the season will start with a bang.
Two-time defending state champion Hoover puts its 30-game winning streak on the line Aug. 21 when it hosts Clay-Chalkville at Hoover High School to open the season. Hoover will be a Class 7A team. Clay-Chalkville remains in Class 6A. Neither team will play a jamboree a week prior, choosing instead to play an early game that counts and have a bye week during the season.
Clay-Chalkville will host Minor on Aug. 29, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa on Sept. 5 and Huffman on Sept. 12. The Cougars travel to Pinson Valley on Sept. 19 and have a bye week Sept. 26. Clay-Chalkville then hosts Center Point on Oct. 3, travels to Shades Valley on Oct. 10, hosts Woodlawn on Oct. 17, travels to Gardendale on Oct. 24 and plays at rival Hewitt-Trussville on Oct. 31.
Hewitt-Trussville, now a Class 7A team, will play a jamboree Aug. 22 against a team to be determined. The Huskies open the season with an Aug. 29 home game against Gardendale. Hewitt-Trussville travels to Tuscaloosa County on Sept. 5, hosts Vestavia Hills on Sept. 12, plays at Spain Park on Sept. 19, travels to Gadsden City on Sept. 26, hosts Oak Mountain on Oct. 3, plays at Thompson on Oct. 10 and at Mountain Brook on Oct. 17. The Huskies round out the 2014 regular season by hosting Hoover on Oct. 24 and Clay-Chalkville on Oct. 31.
Hewitt-Trussville is in Class 7A, Region 3 with Hoover, Mountain Brook, Oak Mountain, Spain Park, Thompson, Tuscaloosa County and Vestavia Hills.
Pinson Valley, now in Class 6A, will not play a jamboree and opens the season Aug. 22 at Hartselle. The Indians host Oneonta on Aug. 29 and Woodlawn on Sept. 5, play at Gardendale on Sept. 12, host Clay-Chalkville on Sept. 19 and McAdory on Sept. 26, and travel to Huffman on Oct. 3. After a bye Oct. 10, Pinson Valley hosts Center Point on Oct. 17, plays at Shades Valley on Oct. 24 and travels to Minor on Oct. 30.
Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley are in Class 6A, Region 6 with Center Point, Gardendale, Huffman, Shades Valley and Woodlawn.
