PINSON — A Pinson Valley senior baseball pitcher signed his scholarship Friday.
Brent Stephens signed to play at Calhoun Community College in Tanner. Stephens verbally committed to Calhoun Community College last month.
“It feels good to know that what I’ve worked hard for paid off,” Stephens said last month.
Pinson Valley head baseball coach Shane Chappell said Stephens’ fastball reaches the 86 to 88 mph range and that he has a power slider. Stephens didn’t pitch many innings last season due to a deep staff, four of which are now pitching in college.
“Brent is an extremely hard worker and is a tremendous competitor,” Chappell said. “He works to get better each and every day. He has always had a plus arm but has really developed his control on all pitches since the end of last year. We are expecting him to help lead another quality pitching staff this year along with anchoring the middle of our order.”
Pinson Valley posted a 32-14 record last season, reaching the Class 5A state semifinals before losing to eventual state champion Hartselle.
