TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville senior defensive end Austin Wysor signed with Mercer University in Macon, Ga., today.
“It means a lot,” Wysor said. “It’s making it official.”
Wysor, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end, will play on the outside edge in a 3-4 defense at Mercer. He also had offers from Austin Peay and UAB. Wysor committed to Mercer in September.
Wysor said he likes the coaching staff a lot, and that he’s never seen coaches recruit like the Mercer staff. He said they were persistent and did it “the right way.”
“On (my) official visit, they treated us like we were Gods,” Wysor said. “They treated us so nice. It really is a family. I’m excited to get down there.”
Wysor, The Trussville Tribune defensive player of the year from Hewitt-Trussville, finished the 2013 season with 46 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, two pass breakups and a team-leading three fumble recoveries.
