TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville senior pitcher Alec Talley on Monday signed his national letter of intent to play college baseball at Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton.
Talley, a right-hander, compiled a 9-4 record as a junior last season for a Hewitt-Trussville team that posted a 34-13 record and reached the Class 6A state championship series against Pelham.

Talley pitched in the AHSAA Class 6A state championship finals last season, hurling a complete game six-hitter in a 1-0 loss to Pelham. Talley allowed one earned run and struck out six batters in a pitcher’s duel with Pelham’s Jack Pierce, who struck out eight Hewitt-Trussville batters in a complete game two-hitter.
Hewitt-Trussville head baseball coach Jeff Mauldin said Talley throws three pitches for strikes.
“He pitches with unbelievable confidence,” Mauldin said. “He’s just a winner.”
Fellow senior pitcher Austin Treglown signed with Wallace State Community College earlier this year. Mauldin said Treglown is a 6-foot-3 pitcher with a fastball in the upper 80 mph range. He said Talley “doesn’t look the part (of a pitcher) but is the part.”
“He doesn’t look the part, but you can’t measure a guy’s heart, and that’s what he has,” Mauldin said.
