ALBERTVILLE — Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley have combined for a 3-1 record through the first two rounds of the Albertville Civitans Christmas Classic.
Clay-Chalkville opened the tournament with a 67-24 drubbing of Ashville on Thursday. Junior point guard Hasan Abdullah scored 14 points, handed out seven assists and had seven steals in the win.
The Cougars (12-5) got by Minor 50-48 on Friday in dramatic fashion. Junior forward Martin Reed hit two free throws with three seconds left to give Clay-Chalkville the win. Reed finished with 14 points and senior Brian Clark added 12 points.
Clay-Chalkville faces Scottsboro today at 8:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Pinson Valley beat Class 2A No. 6 Westbrook Christian 52-42 behind 26 points and 10 rebounds from senior guard Zach Jackson. The Indians (8-7) lost to Class 4A No. 7 Guntersville on Friday, 56-51. Jackson led Pinson Valley with 11 points and eight rebounds. Junior Cordarius Reese added eight points. Pinson Valley faces Class 3A No. 2 Holly Pond today at 1 p.m.
The championship game is Monday at 7 p.m.
