Friday night was the most lopsided margin of victory for any team in the 16-year history of the Hewitt-Trussville vs. Clay-Chalkville rivalry.
That about sums it up.
Class 6A No. 2 Clay-Chalkville scored on eight of its 12 possessions, punting just once, en route to a 56-14 throttling of rival Hewitt-Trussville.
“They have a lot of weapons,” Hewitt-Trussville head coach Hal Riddle said.
Five Clay-Chalkville players scored touchdowns in the game. Junior running back Terrelle West rushed 14 times for 154 yards and three touchdowns (7, 18 and 86 yards).
“My offensive line was blocking great,” West said.
Senior running back Sidney Battle rushed just five times for 15 yards but scored a pair of 1-yard touchdowns in the first half.

Senior quarterback Hayden Moore, a Cincinnati verbal commitment, completed 13-of-17 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed six times for 71 yards. Moore completed an 18-yard touchdown to junior receiver Eric Blockum late in the second quarter and a 27-yard score to senior receiver Brian Clark in the third quarter.
“Hayden is obviously really talented,” Riddle said.
Blockum caught three passes for 42 yards and the touchdown, and Clark caught four balls for 64 yards and a touchdown.
How good can this Clay-Chalkville offense, which scored a school-record 506 points a season ago, be?
“I think we have to push ourselves every game,” West said. “We can’t be satisfied.”
West scored the first touchdown of the game, a 7-yard run with 8:22 left in the first quarter. Battle added a 1-yard score late in the first and early in the second to put the Cougars up 21-0.
Hewitt-Trussville senior running back Donald Voltz scored on a 1-yard run with 1:44 left until halftime, an apparent spark for the Huskies (0-1). But it took just 1:28 off the clock to run six plays and go 80 yards for a touchdown, when Moore found Blockum for an 18-yard score just before the half.

“We wanted to step on the gas pedal,” Clay-Chalkville head coach Jerry Hood said.
To open the third, West ran 18 yards for a score, giving the Cougars a 35-7 advantage. Moore then hit Clark a little more than two minutes later for a 27-yard score. On Clay-Chalkville’s next possession, West took the handoff on the first play of the drive and went 86 yards down the Hewitt-Trussville sideline for his third touchdown.
With 8:43 to play in the game, Hewitt-Trussville sophomore quarterback Zac Thomas found senior receiver Logan McAlpin for a 33-yard score, cutting the Cougars’ lead to 49-14.
One minute later, Clay-Chalkville senior running back Stephone Sheffield broke loose for a 16-yard touchdown run, putting Clay-Chalkville on top 56-14.
For Hewitt-Trussville, senior quarterback Blake Bailey completed 17-of-30 passes for 95 yards. He threw one interception to Clay-Chalkville sophomore defensive back Amari Holloway. Thomas completed all four of his passes for 64 yards and a score. Thomas also rushed 10 times for 57 yards. Senior running back Peyton Palmer rushed six times for 19 yards and caught six passes for 65 yards. McAlpin caught three balls for 46 yards and a score, and senior receiver DeMarcus Kelly caught five passes for 33 yards.
Defensively for Hewitt-Trussville, senior defensive end Austin Wysor notched six tackles and a tackle for loss. Senior linebacker Carson Foster came up with a fumble recovery.
Defensively for Clay-Chalkville, junior defensive back Kam Prewitt totaled eight tackles and a pass breakup. Junior linebacker E.J. Gant recovered a fumble.
