The Hewitt-Trussville football teams Friday night swept Pinson Valley in their jamboree games.
The Hewitt-Trussville varsity team defeated Pinson Valley 10-2.
Hewitt-Trussville capped a seven-play, 33-yard opening drive when senior quarterback Blake Bailey plunged forward for a 1-yard touchdown. Junior kicker T.J. McGettigan kicked a 24-yard field goal to put Hewitt-Trussville up 10-0.
Hewitt-Trussville sophomore quarterback Zach Thomas was sacked late in the game in the end zone by Pinson Valley senior linebacker Harrison Johnson, resulting in a safety.
For Hewitt-Trussville, Bailey, who started at quarterback, completed 4-of-10 passes for 21 yards. Thomas completed 1-of-1 for 16 yards and rushed for seven yards on three carries. Junior wide receiver Dalton Meadows caught two passes for 20 yards. Senior wide receiver Riley Stokes was hit hard near the end zone attempting to catch a pass. He left the game experiencing concussion-like symptoms. His status for next Friday’s opening game at Clay-Chalkville is unknown.

Defensively for Hewitt-Trussville, senior cornerback Caleb Rigg had an interception and junior Cyle Moore recovered a fumble. Senior linebacker Hunter Reid had five tackles and one tackle for loss. Senior defensive end Joseph Roberts added five tackles.
For Pinson Valley, senior quarterback Brooks Garrett completed 6-of-12 passes for 52 yards and an interception. He rushed eight times for 28 yards. Junior running back Tyree Watson led the Indians with 30 rushing yards on 12 carries.
Defensively, Johnson had a couple tackles, a sack, fumble recovery and he partially blocked a punt. Senior linebacker Elijah Bibbs notched four tackles and contributed on a sack.
The Hewitt-Trussville junior varsity team beat Pinson Valley 27-6. Thomas led the Huskies to the win, rushing for touchdowns of 36 and 82 yards. Sophomore running back Jarion Street scored on a 3-yard run and Neiman Thomas scored on a 9-yard run. Pinson Valley’s lone touchdown came with eight seconds left in the game when sophomore quarterback Errius Collins rushed for a 2-yard score.
The Hewitt-Trussville freshmen team beat Pinson Valley 6-0. Grayson Cash scored the lone touchdown, a 33-yard rushing score. Cash finished with 55 yards on three carries. Cameron Moore had two sacks on defense and Nathan Helms had an interception. For Pinson Valley, Torrie Hendrix rushed 17 times for 55 yards. Zapeth Cunningham added four tackles and two tackles for loss on defense.
