Trussville Mayor Gene Melton said at Tuesday’s Trussville City Council meeting that Green Drive is not expected to reopen by the start of school Aug. 19.
Melton said he hopes to have final engineering designs for the repair from Schoel Engineering by Friday. He said that will bring the project “real close” to having something that can go out for bid.
The repair will likely cost more than ,000.
Green Drive needs a culvert replacement, a result of one collapsing in May. The city council approved Schoel Engineering doing the engineering for the Green Drive repair at a cost of ,600 last month.
Green Drive remains closed from Norrell Drive to Trussville-Clay Road.
The closed road is a popular link from Chalkville Mountain Road to Trussville-Clay Road, on which Hewitt-Trussville Middle School is located.
