Phase 3 of an archaeological study at the future Hewitt-Trussville Stadium site is expected to begin today.
The third phase, weather permitting, is expected to last 30 to 45 days.
The Trussville City Council last month approved of Mayor Gene Melton entering into an agreement with the University of Alabama for professional archaeological services at the new football stadium site.
The city council voted to agree to pay the University of Alabama an amount not to exceed $142,577.24 for the archaeological dig, which will take place at the stadium site behind the Trussville Civic Center on Trussville-Clay Road.
Bids for stadium construction were opened last week.
The city will receive bids Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the construction of a bridge over the Cahaba River leading to the new football stadium.
