Former Pinson Valley golfer John Michael O’Toole is a national champion.
O’Toole was part of the Central Alabama Community College golf team that locked up the NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship at The Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday.
The national title is the seventh for Central Alabama’s men’s golf program, and its first since its three consecutive championships from 1999-2001.

O’Toole tied for 32nd, shooting rounds of 77, 73, 70 and 73.
O’Toole graduated from Pinson Valley High School in 2011. He won the Class 5A individual state championship that year at Magnolia Grove in Mobile. He shot 72 and 69 in the tournament, which Pinson Valley placed fifth in as a team.
O’Toole said in 2011 that his career-best round is a 62, which he shot at Cumberland Lake Golf Club in Pinson. That was a course record from the white tees.
