The Pinson Public Library has qualified for four grants worth a total of $13,000, it was announced at Thursday’s Pinson City Council meeting
.
The largest grant, the Bookapalooza Award, will provide $10,000 in new children’s books. Only three libraries receive the award each year. The award is part of the Alabama Library Association’s Association for Library Service to Children. The other two winners were the Fletcher School in Fletcher, Okla., and Ashland Public Library in Ohio.
“I’m so excited,” Library Director April Wallace said. “We’re about to have a lot of new children’s books to add to our shelves.”
Dollar General provided the library with two grants for $1,000 each — one for teen programming, and one to hire a paid teen intern for the summer. Both grants are part of the Young Adult Library Services Association.
The final grant received by the library will help pay for attendance to the annual American Library Association conference June 27 through July 2 in Chicago.
